‘Unloved’ gold developers sold off as the Iran War halted gold’s record price run are aiming to hit their straps in a bid to capture the value they think the market is failing to recognise.

A host of goldies in the roughest part of the Lassonde Curve were among the presenters at Diggers and Dealers in Kalgoorlie, where the uncertainty posed by the war dampened a mood that had been ebullient a year before.

The irony is gold prices have moved 21% higher in the past 12 months.

But a rally that lifted the sector on Wednesday – with gold up 2% to almost US$4200/oz thanks to easing tensions between Iranian and American officials at talks in Oman – may present a window to the upside on offer once the world quote-unquote normalises.

The All Ords gold sub-index climbed a manic 6.42% on Wednesday, a welcome break from what some small miners have described as a ‘buyer’s strike’ in recent months.

Marc Ducler, boss of Astral Resources (ASX:AAR), says he is “100% certain of a re-rate” once permitting progresses ahead of a planned Q1 2027 definitive feasibility study for its 1.74Moz Mandilla project near Kambalda in WA’s Goldfields.

The stock is down ~50% in the past six months but has more than doubled over the past two years as it has grown and moved beyond a pre-feasibility study for the asset.

“I think the challenge for us is we have we have delayed the DFS and we’ve delayed the DFS as I spoke about because we haven’t got consent to lodge our approvals,” he said on the sidelines of the Diggers and Dealers Mining Forum in Kalgoorlie this week.

“My sense is we will close that out this quarter and then we’ll be in a much better position to talk about how we actually lodge.

“So, if I have to eat some s*** for the next couple of months until I clear the air with that, that’s just my reality. I’m just comfortable that I have $65 million in the bank. I am cheap compared to my peers and I’m 100% certain that I re-rate.”
